You cannot understand Warsaw without it. When almost 90% of the city was destroyed during WWII, for the new communist government it was a chance. Warsaw was to become a perfect, socialist city. This urban experiment continued for over 40 years. While in Warsaw, you cannot miss two most iconic examples of socialist realist architecure - the Palace of Culture and Science and the MDM housing estate.
Fryderyk Chopin is the greatest piano composer in the world and the most famous Varsovian. Dying in France, he even wished his heart to be buried in Warsaw. He spent the first twenty years of his life in the city. There`s no better way to understand Polish soul than listening to his music.
The Polin Museum narrates 1000 years of history and culture of Polish Jews, once the largest Jewish community in the world. It`s a new must in Warsaw and the most spectacular new museum in Poland. In 2016 it received European Museum of the Year Award.
The Royal Castle is the most important historic object in Warsaw. Built in 14th century, enlarged, remodeled, destroyed and reconstructed, it witnessed all the main events that happened in Poland.
Take a walk in the Warsaw Old Town and its surroundings – the New Town, Miodowa street, Senatorska street, Theater square, Pilsudski square, Krakowskie Przedmiescie street, Nowy Świat street, aleje Ujazdowskie. It`s the oldest and most beautiful part of Warsaw.
